Getting Started @ VIU Library: Checklist for New Students: Photo ID & Accounts

Photo ID

Why: Your VIU Photo ID is essential to accessing services at VIU!  These include borrowing library books, videos, CDs and equipment; using the gym; using the Dining Dollars program in the cafeteria; and writing exams.

Where: Library Service Desk, Building 305 on the main floor.

When: During Library hours, up to 30 minutes before closing.

Please note: You will need to bring 1 piece of picture ID (or 2 pieces of ID with no picture) along with your registration receipt or Student Number.

Student Computer Account

Why: You'll need your Student Computer Account to log on to campus computers and the VIU wireless network, VIU-Secure, and also for printing to VIU printers.  Plus, you get 200MB worth of VIU network storage space with your account!  

Where: Create your account online.  Staff in the Library or at the IT HelpDesk are available to help you.

Please note: Don't lose your work - practice good file management and always save to U:!

Library Account

Why: You'll use your library account to access millions of online articles, ebooks and online videos, and to borrow books, DVDs, CDs and equipment.

Where: Apply online or activate your library account in person at the Library Service Desk, Building 305 Main Floor.

When: Online and in-person account activations are processed any time during Library hours.

Please note: You'll need your VIU Photo ID and/or Student Number to activate your library account and get your Library PIN number.

Printing & Photocopying Account

Why: Pay printing and photocopying at VIU costs 10¢ per page for black & white printing and is available in all campus computer labs. Colour printing is also available in the Library at a cost of $0.50 per page.

Where: You can add money to your Payprint account and set up your photocopying PIN online at https://payprint.viu.ca using a credit card, or, if using debit or cash, at the Library Service Desk in Building 305, main floor. 

When: Library staff can help you with printing and photocopying during Library hours.

Please note: Amounts added to your PayPrint account are not refundable.
