Positive Space @ VIU
VIU's Positive Space campaign seeks to raise awareness of diversity in sexual orientation and gender identity and to challenge the patterns of silence that continue to marginalize bisexuals, gays, lesbians, and transgendered individuals.
Positive Space promotes the creation of a space defined by equality, free from discrimination and hate. It is a public proclamation of support and affirmation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and questioning members of our community, making the campus a more welcoming place for all.
Get more information at the Positive Space website.
Out On Campus
Out On Campus is a student social club at VIU which organizes activities for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Two-Spirit and Questioning students and their straight-identified allies. Out On Campus club is also VIU’s Gay/Straight Alliance network and invites all who are interested and supportive to join in our efforts to raise queer visibility on campus. We wish to underscore our focus on the importance of cooperation across the spectrum of sexual orientations.
If you are interested in being part of the Out On Campus group, please contact us through email at: outoncampus@viusu.ca
FYI
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and
Transgender (LGBT) studies is an
emerging, rapidly-growing field of scholarship. The links in this guide offer an entry point to the most likely sources for LGBTQ studies research. However, as this is a highly interdisciplinary area of study, relevant materials can be found accross numerous databases.
Note that many of the sources referred to herein use the term homosexual interchangeably with gay, which usually refers to men, and lesbian, which usually refers to women.
